html - CSS unordered list item not fully occupying unorderedlist -

i've created drop down menu using <ul> , <li> <li> items ordered vertically. <li> items don't occupy <ul>, there vertical bar of unoccupied space @ left. causing this?

margin, padding , border, box-model propeties.
